Most of the car companies which launch cars today aim at giving its customers more security and safety options. The safety of the passengers and the driver of the car have become one of the top most priorities of the companies owing to the increase in the number of road accidents and the insufficient security levels of the automobiles manufactured previously.

When you look at the safety features in a car, one of the common ones you will come across for the latest model is the airbag. This is a vehicle safety device designed to avoid the occupants from getting harmed during a collision by hitting the steering wheels or the interior of the car. When such a situation occurs the airbag will be deployed to prevent these from occurring.

The airbag was introduced a few decades ago but was met with limited acceptance at that time. This was due to the limited knowledge about the importance of safety rules and regulations. Moreover, the rate of accidents and collisions were much lesser than what is seen today. It gradually became popular with the masses and more companies started to adopt this safety feature in their products.

The first companies which included airbags in their products had only one or two airbags for safety purposes. Today, most of the cars include about four airbags in their cars to increase the level of safety to the users. The airbags are usually stored in the steering or the dash board area and will be deployed during emergencies.

The airbags have sensors and equipments which can measure the occurrence of a collision and its impact. When it senses that a collision has taken place, a signal would be sent to deploy the bag and so it will be released into the car. This way the occupants would be saved from additional injuries due to hitting the steering or the car interior.
